Abandoned by My Mom
Sarah: Hi Dawson
Dawson: Hi Sarah
SARAH (CLEVELAND, OH) QUESTION:
Sarah: I’ve been feeling really alone and abandoned lately. I really miss my mom, but she hasn’t been there for my whole life. She comes to visit once in a while, but not much.
Dawson: Who is your closest adult friend you can talk to?
Sarah: Probably my dad
Dawson: Ok
Sarah: But my dad hates my mom.
DAWSON MCALLISTER'S ANSWER:
Dawson: You go to your dad, and say, “Dad, I need more time with you, because I don’t have a mother. You know I don’t have a mother, and you know why. I also need help in finding a substitute mother or a mother image. Someone who lives near me, who can play the role of mother, who can talk with me and do mother/daughter talk.”
There’s somebody out there who would love to take you in, love to talk with you, and help you sift through your issues. Have your dad help you find that person. If he doesn’t want to, go to where there are really good women around, like women’s clubs, church, or someplace like that. Find someone, be aggressive, be proactive. Plus, you can always talk to our off-air, let’s talk TheHopeLine and tell your story there as well. Because the more you tell your story, Sarah, the better you are going to feel.
